Between Raindrops
"Between Raindrops" is a photographic project documenting the daily life of an 11-year-old boy with FASD and his foster mother. The boy was adopted from a care facility at the age of three, and since then, his development has been shaped by the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure. It tells the story of a boy who had no say in his biological mother's decisions and experiences the consequences of hers daily.
The project showcases the boy's dignity, sensitivity, and strength, as well as the role of a close, supportive person in his life. A key part of the project is the texts written by his foster mother. They introduce an additional layer of intimacy and perspective, allowing for a better understanding of the family's emotional experience and daily life, alongside the photographic narrative.
The main goal was to create an honest perspective that goes beyond stereotypes and limited public awareness of FASD. This is not an attempt to medically explain this syndrome, but to portray everyday life, which, with appropriate support, provides space for growth and stability. The project also addresses the lack of understanding and challenges faced by families caring for children with FASD. It also addresses broader societal issues such as the care system, adoption, disability, and social awareness. FASD remains largely misunderstood, and many children and families remain invisible and without systemic support.
