Between Raindrops

“Between Raindrops” is a long term photographic project produced between 2025 and 2026, documenting the daily life of an 11 year old boy with FASD and his foster mother. Adopted from a care facility at the age of three, his development has been shaped by prenatal alcohol exposure. The project tells his story, highlighting his dignity, sensitivity and strength while emphasising the importance of support and stability in his everyday life. Alongside the photographs, the foster mother’s written texts add intimacy and perspective, offering a deeper understanding of their emotional experiences and daily routine.

The project was developed with the intention of creating and publishing a photobook. It culminated in the production of a handmade dummy book titled “Between Raindrops”.The project’s main goal is to present an honest perspective beyond stereotypes and limited public awareness of FASD. It doesn’t aim to medically explain the syndrome but rather to portray everyday life, demonstrating how appropriate support fosters growth and stability. Furthermore, it addresses the lack of understanding and challenges faced by families caring for children with FASD and broader societal issues like the care system, adoption, disability and social awareness. FASD remains largely misunderstood, leaving many children and families invisible and unsupported.

Handmade Dummy Book

The dummy book of “Between Raindrops” is a handmade photographic book, produced by the author. The publication contains black and white photographs and includes texts and conversations from both the foster mother and the boy. It also features an expert text by Dr. Cassie Jackson, which adds an additional perspective to the narrative and strengthens its multi-layered character.
